The Progression and Features
Early cell phones were just for talking. Gradually, features like voicemail were added, but the main purpose was to talk (Art Institutes). Then, there were other features added to the phones to expand the use of them. The very first smartphones that were released let you access email, use the phone as a fax machine, pager, and create an address book. In the recent years, the purpose of the cell phone has shifted from a verbal communication tool to a multimedia tool, adopting the name “mobile device” (Art Institutes). We tend to use our phones now to surf the web and use a popular app called Snap Chat that allows you to snap pictures up to ten seconds. There is also a popular social media app called Twitter. Our cell phones can now carry apps such as Facebook, Kik, Instagram, music apps, and video games(Art Institutes). Cell phones are used less frequently to make a call now. Cell phones today are also replacing our other gadgets--- cameras, video cameras, and music players. When the cameras were first introduced on our cell phones, the quality was really poor, now when you take a picture on the latest phones like iPhone 6, you can see every detail on a person, even a pimple. For example, the camera on the new iPhone 6 is really good, takes amazing pictures. The phone is 1334-by-750 pixel resolution at 326 ppi, it also has HD retina display(Apple). All the phones now have turned into a virtual toolbox with a solution for almost every need. On your phone, you can now ask it for answers and talk to a person with a simple click of one button. Shape Change Technology has boosted over time, but the shaping of the phone has changed also. Cell phones have become extremely lighter and smaller, more efficient to carry around. They use to be bricks and bigger than your hand. Cell phone designs have actually started to become larger and simpler, making room for a larger screen and fewer buttons (Art Institutes). Keyboards were removed and made touch screens on the phones, appearing when you need them. |
